History
9 Generations, a story rooted in the land
Until the middle of the 20th century, the estate's grapes were delivered to a cooperative, as was the custom in many Bordeaux winegrowing families.
In 1967 , Françoise and Christian Bouyer , representatives of the 7th generation , decided to take back control of marketing and produce their own wines.
From the land to the bottle, they embrace a unique vision: that of an estate where each terroir expresses itself freely , without a fixed hierarchy between “first” and “second” wine.
Two strong identities: Château Milon and Clos de la Cure
Aware that the soils of the lower slopes and those of the
Clay-limestone plateaus offer very different aromatic expressions.
Françoise and Christian created two distinct product lines:
- Château Milon , symbol of the family seat, originating from silico-argo-gravelly soils (clays, gravels and sands).
- Clos de la Cure , heir to “Clos du Curé”, produced on the clay-limestone hillsides and plateaus of Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes.
This fragmented and identity-based approach,
innovative at the time, it became the signature of the estate.
The evolution of a family vision
In 1994 , Pierre Bouyer joined his
parents and continues this philosophy.
With Alexia , his wife, who quickly joined him, they modernized the operation and developed the range, offering wines ranging from immediate enjoyment to great bottles for aging.
This is how, after ten years of work, the Caprice cuvée was born: a 100% Merlot that is fresh, fruity and accessible, a symbol of a modern and unpretentious Saint-Émilion wine.
The purchase of new plots of land in 2009 on the
the southern slope of the appellation further enriches the range of Château Milon.
Then, in 2010 , the family seized the rare opportunity to acquire 56 ares in Pomerol , with century-old vines. From this secluded vineyard comes a wine of great finesse, produced in only 2,500 bottles per year .
The next generation and the spirit of innovation
Since 2019 , Louis Bouyer , son of Pierre and Alexia, has been actively involved in the life of the estate.
Drawing on his studies and experiences in other regions, he brings a fresh perspective, guided by the same values: respect for the land, curiosity and audacity .
In 2022 , the family isolated a plot of Cabernet Franc on limestone for the first time, giving birth to the
Cuvée Bouchet , starting point of a new single-vineyard range .
These micro-cuvées, such as Milon “Les Cabanes” and La Cure “Le Bourg” , explore the richness of the terroirs of the right bank, in deliberately limited quantities to guarantee excellence.
Cape Hardi: the audacity of a new horizon
In 2024 , Louis initiated an ambitious project: Cap Hardi , a collection of wines of exploration and freedom.
The first vintage, Cap Hardi N°1 , is a 100% Sauvignon Gris from the limestone slopes of Entre-Deux-Mers, in Haux, a nod to its origins.
learning.
Rarity, authenticity and audacity: this vintage embodies the family's desire to showcase Bordeaux differently , by collaborating with winemakers who share the same high standards.
One family, one region, one philosophy
Today, the Bouyer family continues to keep this heritage alive, with the same passion for the vine and the same demand for sincerity in every bottle.
From Château Milon to Clos de la Cure , from single-vineyard wines to Cap Hardi , each wine is a faithful expression of the land, the climate and the generations that shaped it.
